The First Book of William F.Nolan "Logan's Run" was co-writed with George Clayton Johnson !!! This name is perhaps unknow for you, but I think sincerky that this man was changed your television watching !!!

GEORGE CLAYTON JOHNSON :
Born in 1929 in the Wyoming, ot's just after to be married in the years 1950 that he coming in Charles Beaumont's Group of writers friends that included somes great names of the SF : William F. Nolan; Rod Serling; Ray Bradbury, etc. Mentored by Mr. Bradbury, George Clayton Johnson with the help of Beaumont Sold his story "All of Us are Dying" for the very popular tv serie's Rod Serling : THE TWILIGHT ZONE.Geoge Clayton Johnson writed others scripts for the tv serie TWILIGHT-ZONE and write one episod of tv serie STAR-TREK CLASSIC nammed "Man Trap" and a other script for STAR-TREK CLASSIC but he was never produced. And, he writed somes script of the tv serie Kung-Fu and return to The Twilight-Zone for somes scripts of the new tv serie and movie in the years 80. He was writed too the story of Ocean's Eleven in 1960 and made in a movie in 2001 !!!

WILLIAM F. NOLAN :
Born in 1928 in Kansas City in the Missouri, William F. Nolan is too a great name of the SF !!! Yes, with somes 75 books and writed in approx. 750 magazine, this author of succes books is a legend in US !!! But contrary to Johnson he was just writed somes books and participated at tha adaptation in movie of his great succes with Johnson : Logan's Run. Participate again at the writing of the new script of the new movie of Logan's Run, he was prefered to writed somes SF Books rather that writed somes scripts of movie or tv series, but he was participate at somes story of Ray Bradbury...
So, The success of the books interest the MGM, who's made a movie. In 1976 comes : LOGAN'S RUN, a SAUL DAVID'S movie with Michaël York and Jenny Agutter in the starring. This is a free adaptation of the first book of William F. Nolan. Is not exactly the book, but it's a big success. So with this incredible success of the movie, and so the fans they can thinked that a second movie will made for the book number two : LOGAN'S WORLD (william F. Nolan was made a script if 40 pages especially for a second movie of Saul David) the big surprise for everyone is here : CBS buy the rights of Logan's Run for 9 millions dollards (a crazy amount of money at this time !) for to can follow up Logan's Run but in tv serie. William F. Nolan was say that he was prefer to made three movies for to narrated in the best his books. Nobody want to made a tv serie, just CBS. But MGM sell the rights, and the tv serie begin !!! The tv serie was broadcasted one year after the movie : in 1977. In the begin Saul David must produce the tv serie with William F. Nolan for to help at the writing of the scripts of the tv serie with the Saul David's Staff. But the discordance between Saul David and CBS, do that CBS turn out Saul David and his staff and put a new staff and producers : Ivan Goff and Ben Robets (Charlie's Angels) and Leonard Katzman (Dallas) : all are dead today. Katzman was made somes modifications to the Pilot of the tv serie : for example, he create the council (who manage the city of Domes in the secret) !!! And not the computers same in the books. He lengthen the pilot at 90 minutes and create a new character : the androïd REM. After Saul David, it's William F. Nolan who's "escape" of this production, when he see that we made at his creation. and for finish DC Fontana (Star-Trek, etc.) and his staff who was to have the liberty total of the writing of the scripts of the episods, see that all script was rewriting by Goof and Roberts. Add at all it, a low budget, and you see the consequence : disastrous !!! The tv serie is a big flop and after 13 episods (14 with the Pilot), it's finish !!!

Of course, too long, few action and many many repetitives scenes was killed the tv serie. And all fans, same the fans of today in USA keep just the movie in their hearts and like very much the tv serie. But in France, it's really different : the tv serie is like very much by fans more that the movie. Of course, the tv serie was broadcasted in France before the movie and is not easy to made a link between the movie and the tv serie at the first apparence. In the movie the atmosphere if different, it's more hard, the tv serie is more trivial. And in France many many people are attached at the character : REM. REM is really genious !!! But the movie have a great advantageon the tv serie, the movie have a End !!! For the books, I can't say the impact in France, because in first : I was too young for to know it, and I don't know many many persons in France who was readed the books. Just two or three persons !!! But two books was translated in France. The movie was edited in France in videotape (I don't know if it's was edited in LaserDisc PAL in french !!! But I don't think so !!!)and the tv serie too (it seems that just for the video-club) but at now, impossible to find it !!! But luckily for us the tv sattellite broadcast regularly the tv serie and the movie and we can recording it at the good time !!! The fans of today was create somes greats websites who's permit at Logan to live again at now !!! So I'm a french fan, and I was see again the tv serie and teh movie, some months ago. I was made this website for (I hope) to keep Logan alive in my country in France. And William F. Nolan was writed a sequel at the three books : Logan's Return and a new is actually made by Bryan Singer (X-Men) who's come in the summer 2005 in USA. I think that is a good thing, because the productor is Joel Silver and he don't love to lost some money !!! Waiting, but during this time : Run Logan, Run !
