The 1976's Movie of MGM

The First book of William F.Nolan and George Clayton Johnson was written in1967, and William F. Nolan don't have finish to write his second book, on Logan, called "Logan's World". When with the success of the first book, the MGM decide to made a adaptation with a movie. This is Saul David who made the movie in 1976 entitled "Logan's Run". Immediatly, Saul David and William F. Nolan thinked to made a trilogy, but unfortunatly, the destiny and CBS decide otherwise !!! Only the next two books of William F. Nolan was leaved : "Logan's World" in 1977 and "Logan's Search" in 1980. The movie is not the exact adaptation of the first book, in the book we die at 21 years old, the Sandmens have 6 hits Guns with a different effect for each bullet (homer, tangler, nitro, vapor, ripper and needler) and this is the world who is under the domination of a computer called "The Thinker", The City of Domes don't exist. But we find in the movie somes mains elements of the book who are somes landmarks for us : Arcade, The Cubs, The Lifeclock in the hand of the citizens from the City of Domes, Box, Doc, etc. But a big change was made with the character Francis and in the movie, Francis had lost very much !!! But Richard Jordan is very good in this role. But in the book, Francis is Ballard and it's really a very great suspens and rebound who was disappeared in the movie. The movie was be a very great success in USA, the movie win a special oscar for the visual effects (especially for the creation of the firsts holographics pictures made with a lazer !!!) and was edited on all video supports : Video-Tape, LaserDisc, DVD and in all mains countries. To note this : Jerry GoldSmith was composed the musics from the movie of Logan's Run, and the musics from the first movie of Star-Trek "The Motion Pciture".

THE CHARACTERS AND ACTORS OF THE MOVIE :
LOGAN 5 :

MICHAÊL YORK is the main character and play the sandman : LOGAN 5. We was can see this popular actor (in France too), in "The Island of Dr. Moreau"; "The Three Musketeers" ou encore "The Riddle of the Sands"; "Au Nom de Tous les Miens". And more recently in "Austin Powers : Goldmembers". Very popular in USA, in France it's very difficult for us to find the name of movies where he was played in ! We know his face and name, but the name of the movies where is played, it's difficult. LOGAN'S RUN is one of his firsts greats roles... After he made the career that we know well !!!

JESSICA 6 :

JENNY AGUTTER play JESSICA 6, the beautiful runner. In France she's not very know, but we see her in "An American Werewolf in London", "The Man in The Iron Mask" (not the movie with Leonardo Di Caprio !) but in "DARKMAN" too. We can see her in somes tv series too "Red Warf" or "The Equalizer" for example. In USA we can see her in many many movies, but theses movies was not translated in France. For a little history Jenny play again with Michael York in a movie, 20 years after theirs roles in Logan's Run.

FRANCIS 7 :

RICHARD JORDAN play the terrible sandman FRANCIS 7 who is the best friend of Logan too. We can see this actor in theses movies in France : "The Hunt for Red October", "The Murder of MARY PHAGAN", "The Secret of my Success" (he play the uncle of Michael J. Fox) and in "DUNE" too. We can see him in the tv serie " THE EQUALIZER", he was played Harley Gage. The actor is dead in 1993 and is very sad, of a Brain's Tumor. For the little history, the actor was burned him (at the leg !) with his functionnal flamegun !

HOLLY 13 :

Here is (the true ?) star of the movie Logan's Run says somes fans. HOLLY 13 played by the very beautiful FARRAH FAWCETT. She's very very popular in France (and in USA too !) for to she's played in : "Charlie's Angels", in the movies "SATURN 3" et dans "The Cannonball Run". And, we was can see her played in the tv serie "The Six Millions Dollards Man" (of course, because she was during somes years Miss Lee Majors !!!) and others Tv Movies with each time a different role (a beaten woman, etc.).

THE OLD MAN :

PETER USTINOV play The Old Man who live outside of The City of Domes in the Destroyed White House with his cats. No need to present this great actor, who was played in many many movies and who was very very popular, I just tell you a name : Hercule Poirot. Yes ! he was played many many times this character !!! The Actor is dead in march 2004, it's very very sad.

BOX :

ROSCOE LEE BROWNE play the android Box (in the book, he's more very terrifying!!!) who "freeze" all the runners that he was see !!! Big star in USA, we was see this mister in many many tv series : Starsky & Hutch; Magnum; Bonanza; Cosby Show; New York District; etc.

We are in 2274, The humanity was survived somehow or other at a nuclear war. But a part of humanity was better survived that the rest of humanity. In a closed world under shelter of the outside world. The City of Domes was survived, but more, the technology in the City of Domes was continued to progress too. Until the time where the machine was take the complete control of this world. So, the computers provide to the humans needs (eat, sleep...). So they don't need to work and they can use their life at the total pleasure !!! Yes, but the short life, because for avoid the overpopulation, the citizens of the City of Domes must to go at the terrible Caroussel : die at 30 years !!! When their lifeclock is scarlet Red !!! But somes citizens not agree with the system, and become somes runners for to find the Sanctuary. So, after to terminate the runner, Logan take back the runner's items at the computer. And the interrogation begin.

What LOGAN know of the SANCTUARY ? Know he the ANKH (the jewel of the runners) ? Know he that 1056 runners are missing, and they are not kill, no ! Disappear ! So, LOGAN interrogate the computer too, but the computer don't answer him and give a mission to Logan : find the runners disappeared and destroy the Sanctuary of the inside, Logan must to play the role of a runner. Without the help of the others Sandmens. LOGAN answer that nobody believe that a Sandman become a runner and with his lifeclock, he's far of the Carousel !!! So, The computer change it and LOGAN suffer the procedure : 033 - 03, called : RETROGRAM. After it, his lifeclock is scarlet red and he's now very near (somes hours !) of the Carousel !!! He can become a runner. So, he goes to talk at FRANCIS for to know more things on the Caroussel, but FRANCIS don't answer him, because he's too busy to relax him. He go back at his home, and JESSICA come to see him. Logan say at Jessica that he will to become a runner and try to find the SANCTUARY. Can she to help him ? She's going to see somes friends who decide to kill LOGAN, and JESSICA accept to be the bait. But LOGAN must to do a intervention in a Danger zone for to kill a runner. Of Course, he must to go where is the Cubs. The Cubs attack Logan, but with his flamegun and a discussion with Billy, the Cubs escape them, when LOGAN find the runner, he don't shoot her, he give her a gaz capsule for to escape her at the others Sandmens. But FRANCIS is here, and after the departure of LOGAN and JESSICA, terminate the woman-runner. LOGAN and JESSICA go back to Arcade, the"center" of the City of Domes. So, JESSICA protect LOGAN and don't bring him in the trap, and they going to see "DOC" (a aesthetic surgeon) who is in the network of the runners. Here, LOGAN meet HOLLY 13. But DOC want to kill LOGAN with his lazer scalpel. Luckily, LOGAN escape at the trap and the surgeon die, so LOGAN escape him with JESSICA, FRANCIS come at this moment, and ask to LOGAN to take again the control of himself. But LOGAN don't listen FRANCIS and go with JESSICA. After many many problems LOGAN and JESSICA arrive at the runners's hide-out. They kill LOGAN. But LOGAN active his Tracker and the Sandmen's Headquarter detect him. The Runners will kill LOGAN, but JESSICA try to explain their that LOGAN is now a Runner too. But they don't believe it ! So HOLLY 13 comes at this moment, and confirm that JESSICA say, so, the runners tell at LOGAN and JESSICA where they must go for to find the SANCTUARY. LOGAN ask at the runners (he can't see their faces because they're in the dark) to bring back JESSICA at his home, because she very young and she don't fear the carousel. But JESSICA decline and she want to come with him, at this moment the Sandmen comes and a war begin ! LOGAN want to protect JESSICA and don't hesitate to shoot FRANCIS who say him a last time to become again a Sandman. LOGAN and JESSICA escape them, with the Ankh. After a long way, our two friends arrive in frozen cave and meet Box who carve the ice, but FRANCIS continue to follow them. But here, LOGAN discover the horrible true, the disappeared runners don't find the SANCTUARY, but they're all freezed by Box. They're all dead. And now Box want freeze LOGAN and JESSICA !!! Luckily for JESSICA, LOGAN is a very great Sandman, with a very good training and a very terrible Flamegun. Quickly, the cave of Box is destroying and all the ice fall on Box, our two friends escape them accuracy. LOGAN and JESSICA, continue their way and arrive outside where a marvellous sun receive them. The Lifeclock is now completly white !!! They walking a long time and find a lake where they take a a bath. After it, they continue again their way and find a old house destroyed (The White House). They go inside and find a old man with many many cats.

It's the first time that LOGAN and JESSICA see a old man and they're very surprise by his wrinkles on his face. LOGAN ask him if this is the SANCTUARY, but the old man can't to answer them not more at the others questions of LOGAN and JESSICA... The old man explain at LOGAN and JESSICA that a nuclear war was devasted the Earth and this is for it that he rest not many many people. But FRANCIS joint our friend and capture JESSICA for kill her. But LOGAN see that JESSICA is disappear and FRANCIS appear with his prisoner JESSICA. LOGAN ask to FRANCIS to free JESSICA, but FRANCIS refuse. So LOGAN ask to FRANCIS to see his lifeclock, it's all white. When he see it, FRANCIS lost his DS FLAMEGUN, JESSICA take quickly the DS FLAMEGUN and hurl it very far. So a terrible fight begin between LOGAN and FRANCIS with their fists. With hardless, LOGAN arrive to win on FRANCIS. Later, after to do very well thinking and talking with the old man, LOGAN realize that he don't have a SANCTUARY and that BOX was killed all the runners that they was escape of the City of Domes !!! This is the moment to return at the City of Domes for to stop the Carousel on the others citizens of the City of Domes. The Old man decide to go with them, after the long way in the opposite direction, when they arrive at the outside of the City of Domes, the old man must to wait them, because JESSICA and LOGAN take a way very difficult (submarine way). When they are in the City of Domes, LOGAN and JESSICA roar to the citizens of the City of Domes for to stopping the Carousel, and they show his lifeclock who is inert. But nobody listen them !!! And the Sandmen comes, JESSICA and LOGAN try to escape at the Sandmen but they are captured. So LOGAN is take away in reprogram and the computer want to know if LOGAN was destroyed the SANCTUARY. But all the hardship that have suffer LOGAN this last days and the Death of FRANCIS was consolidate his mind and the computer can't to fight against it. So the computer auto-destuct himself. So LOGAN steal the DS FLAMEGUN at a Sandman near of him and kill the Sandmen one by one, and he shoot the computer for to finish the work !!! The Headquarter of Sandmen explode who's made somes explosions who oblige the citizens of the City of Domes to go outside. LOGAN and JESSICA find again themself and see the old man in outside, all the young citizens of the City of Domes uncover the old man and the outside. At now, never the old man will be alone...
